Volunteer Spotlight: Ken Pyra

Ken is our go-to handyman, and we are so thankful for his talent and skills!

He said that as a recent retiree, he felt the need to get more involved with local organizations, and then became interested in the volunteer handyman opportunity after taking some classes here. He was previously a service technician for IBM in Chicago, and also developed skills from working on a small farm in Minnesota.

Susie Traxler, our volunteer coordinator, said Ken is invaluable because he never says “no” to a project, makes sure everything is done perfectly, and stays as long as it takes to finish a project. She said he’s also great about suggesting ways to improve a situation.

“Ken always has a smile on his face and is very pleasant to work with,” said Susie.

Ken recently hung these new barn doors for the new cafe. The project turned out to be a bit more intricate than originally planned, but true to Ken’s style, he stuck with it. The doors are now a beautiful addition to our facility.
