Instructor Spotlight: Kathy Nelson
For Kathy, glass art was a way to decompress from her intense job in neuropsychology—a 25-year career helping people recover from traumatic brain injuries.
“While working in the medium, I could concentrate completely on the project, sometimes using the other side of my brain to help solve a problem at work from a different perspective,” said Kathy.
Kathy said she was inspired by glass art after a European tour where she saw “the most magnificent glasswork in the stained-glass windows of ancient cathedrals”.
Kellen Brugman, our programming coordinator, said that Kathy is so generous with her students, putting a lot of extra care into her class experiences. “Kathy Nelson is a Holland Center teacher favorite,” said Kellen. “Her fused glass classes are sellouts due to the creative designs and her organized, enthusiastic teaching style. Students love her classes because she provides quality and beautiful supplies for creating pieces, and her teaching style is a wonderful blend of instruction and encouraging students to explore their creative skills.”
The Holland Center is grateful to have Kathy keeping our brains healthy with a creative outlet. She teaches multiple hands-on classes that explore the world of glass art. Please check our website calendar for details: www.hollandcenter.org/events.
