Event Series: Exclusive Lectures

Join us for an exciting exploration of Hohokam archaeology, led by Ryan Arp, MA, RPA. This lecture will guide you through the fascinating world of the Hohokam, focusing on Preclassic period sites throughout the Greater Phoenix area. We will discuss who the Hohokam were, what made their culture unique, and learn about major Preclassic sites, including recent findings from recent fieldwork that hint at intricate crafting traditions and the emergence and persistence of social institutions over time.

No prior knowledge of archaeology is required—curiosity is all you need! This talk is designed to be accessible, engaging, and easily understandable for everyone, whether you’re new to archaeology or simply interested in learning more about the past. We’ll also discuss excavation methods in the context of professional cultural resource management, providing a behind-the-scenes look at how archaeologists do their work. There will be time for questions and discussion. We hope you’ll enjoy this journey into the past and leave with a new appreciation for the rich history of the Hohokam.
