Come to our haunted desert for the 7th annual Prickly Pear Festival!
This FREE event, hosted by our Signature Program Desert Awareness Committee, will get your Halloween off to a fast start with fun for all ages, including:
- Tasty treats of homemade prickly pear candy, smoothies, salsa, baked goods, and more!
- Prickly pear products, including bread, tea, jelly, artwork, and other desert products for sale
- Demonstrations of prickly pear juicing, jojoba oil pressing and mesquite flour preparation
- Caricature artist to create a Halloween keepsake for you (wear your costume!)
- Face painting featuring bats, coyotes, javelina, and other animals that eat prickly pears
- Photo shoot in the haunted desert to rev up your Halloween spirit (wear your costume!)
- Storytelling staged reading performance with audience participation
Schedule of timed events:
- 9:00 am: Booths open (outdoor and indoor)
- 9:30 am-10:15 am: Guided desert walk around Holland Center (meet at welcome table)
- 9:45 am-10:15 am: Jojoba oil demonstration (Acacia)
- 10:00 am-12:00 pm: Caricature artist (lobby, limited availability, first come first served)
- 10:30 am-11:00 pm: Chloe and the Desert Heroes staged reading (lobby)
- 11:00 am-1:00 pm: Face painting (lobby)
- 11:15 am-11:45 am: Mesquite flour demonstration (Acacia)
- 1:00 pm: Booths close (outdoor and indoor)
