NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was created following WWII to provide the rebuilding nations of the European continent with the confidence they would be defended against foreign invasion.
New geopolitical ideologies along with altered geographic boundaries would test these new governments, and all feared the expansionist Soviet Union. We will examine NATOs formation and its progress from its beginning to its current structure and function.

Jim Sherbert is an experienced business executive and lifelong student of history. Known for his engaging presentation style and commitment to historical accuracy, he combines research, storytelling, and discussion to make complex topics accessible and relevant. Jim holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Oregon State University and is married to his college sweetheart, Tina. Together they enjoy spending time with their family and grandchildren. At The Holland Center, Jim is a former board chair, serves as development leader of the Desert Foothills Leadership Academy, and leads the Americana Lecture Series.
