The Santa Fe Trail. Santa Fe, New Mexico houses the oldest continuously operated buildings in the United States. Santa Fe was the western terminus of the Santa Fe Trail, and the only significant land route that linked Mexico with the United States.
Unlike most of the historic Westward trails, the Santa Fe trail was two-way trade route rich in commerce. We will explore its foundation and evolution from its establishment in 1821 until the railroad made it obsolete five decades later.

INSTRUCTOR NAME: Jim Sherbert
Jim Sherbert is an experienced business executive and lifelong student of history. Known for his engaging presentation style and commitment to historical accuracy, he combines research, storytelling, and discussion to make complex topics accessible and relevant. Jim holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Oregon State University and is married to his college sweetheart, Tina. Together they enjoy spending time with their family and grandchildren. At The Holland Center, Jim is a former board chair, serves as development leader of the Desert Foothills Leadership Academy, and leads the Americana Lecture Series.
