How did we get here, and where do we go next? This timely discussion looks at the challenges facing American education, the impact on society, and the opportunities created by innovation and emerging technologies.
For more than a generation, K–12 academic performance in the United States—as measured by standardized assessments and practical skill development—has shown troubling signs of decline. Because a democratic republic depends on an informed and educated citizenry, these trends raise important questions about the future of civic engagement, workforce readiness, and national competitiveness. This lecture examines the factors contributing to today’s educational challenges and their broader implications for American society.
The discussion will also explore potential paths forward, including innovative approaches to learning, alternative educational models, and the growing role of emerging technologies. Particular attention will be given to how tools such as artificial intelligence may reshape teaching, learning, and student outcomes, creating new opportunities to strengthen education for future generations.
