How does a plant survive with almost no water, brutal heat, and a whole list of animals that want to eat it? Find out at “Story of Cacti” with Dr. Ken Sweat of Arizona State University, kicking off this year’s Foothills Speaker Series.

Cacti are a unique group of plants, covered in spines and built to survive some of the harshest conditions on Earth. Come and explore the adaptations that let cacti thrive where most other plants can’t, along with the diversity of form and habitat found across this large plant family.

As part of the Desert Foothills Land Trust’s mission to connect people and nature, DFLT sponsors two Speaker Series — ongoing free lecture programs designed to connect community members with the natural and cultural heritage of their Sonoran Desert home. These lectures provide accessible educational opportunities for everyone to deepen their understanding of this unique desert ecosystem. The Foothills Speaker Series is a joint initiative of DFLT and the Holland Center. Click here to see all this season’s events in the Foothills Speaker Series.
