James K. Polk was the 11th President of the United States. Polk, although relatively unknown, is regarded as one of the most successful of all US presidents. A Jacksonian Democrat who followed in his mentor’s footsteps. Today, Polk is often viewed negatively, accused of being an imperialist, as he led the U.S. into the Mexican-American War, annexed the Republic of Texas, secured the Oregon Territory and managed the cession of former Mexican territory. He achieved it all in one four-year presidential term.
Jim Sherbert’s 30-year career spans a wide range of consumer and commercial manufacturing categories with both domestic and international responsibilities. He has a passion for history and the broad scope of events and people who make America unique among nations. At The Holland Center, Jim is a former board chair, serves as development leader of the Desert Foothills Leadership Academy, and leads the Americana Lecture Series.
