Explore the art of fused glass with an experienced glass artist,  new to the Holland Center!  Students in this two day class will complete two beautiful and dramatic flowers.

On the first day of class (Sept. 20 – 1:00 – 4:00), you will be designing, and arranging the glass to form a flower.    Once this is done, the flowers will be put in a kiln to fuse, then slumped into a mold that will create the flower shape (a total of 48 hours in the kiln).The second day of class (Sept. 27), the flower will be assembled to give it a stem and gold or silver paint can be added as an embellishment.  This class will last about 2 hours.  Flowers will be ready to take home at the end of the second week.

Class Cost: $75   There will be a $10 materials fee to be given to the instructor at the first class.

Kathy Nelson enjoys working with students and has developed multiple classes to help others appreciate the world of glass. The ancient art of working glass has always been an area of interest.  The durability of Egyptian glass represents the lasting quality of glass pieces.  How can something so fragile exist for millennia? Exploring the stained glass of Europe inspired her.   Fused glass allowed for more fluid art and remains her focus today.  The play of light in glass remains a fascination. She feels that  glass offers students an easy way to express their imagination.
